Hi and Good Afternoon. My name is Paul Brightly with Sports News. We will begin with week 9 in NFL football. Vinnie Testaverde couldn’t make his famous comeback this time as the Buffalo Bills defeated the New York Jets 23-20 in Buffalo. The victory by the Bills perhaps saved their season and brings them back into playoff contention. Doug Flutie was 18-for-35 for 253 yards and Steve Christie hit the game winning 34-yard field goal as time expired. The Bills improve to (4-4) while the Jets are now (6-2).
The Pittsburgh Steelers made it five in a row with a 9-6 victory over the Baltimore Ravens in Baltimore. Kent Graham completed 9 of 18 passes for 133 yards and a touchdown for the Steelers who are (5-3).
The Ravens made a move by benching struggling quarterback Tony Banks and went with backup Trent Dilfer, but that couldn’t help their scoring problems. The Ravens fall to (5-4).
The Jacksonville Jaguars snapped their five game losing streak with a 23-17 overtime victory over the Dallas Cowboys at Texas Stadium. Mark Brunell was great throwing 20-for-24 for 231 yards and three touchdown passes. He threw the game winning 34-yard touchdown pass to Alvin Whitted giving the Jaguars plenty of reason to celebrate after struggling this season due to injuries. The Jaguars improve to (3-6), while the Cowboys (3-5) try to put together a game plan to try and win consecutive games, which they have failed to do all season.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers showed what they were made of. They snapped their four game losing streak by crushing the Minnesota Vikings 41-13 at home. Quarterback Shaun King was a perfect 16 of 23 for 261 yards without an interception and threw for a career high four touchdown passes. Keyshawn Johnson snapped out of his funk by catching six passes for 121 yards for a score. The Bucs are now (4-4) and Vikings are now (7-1).
And on Monday Night Football, the Washington Redskins fell to the Tennessee Titans 27-21 at home and had their five game winning streak snapped. The plays of the game came in the first half when Derrick Mason returned a punt 69 yards to set up Frank Wycheck for an 18 yard touchdown pass and Samari Rolle returned an interception 81 yards for a touchdown. The Redskins fall to (6-3) while the Titans improve to (7-1).
Now we go to NBA basketball where the regular season tipped off on Halloween night. The New York Knicks played like a team that desperately needed Patrick Ewing as they got clobbered 101-72 at Madison Square Garden by the Philadelphia 76ers. Allen Iverson dropped 25 points and Toni Kukoc added 23 points of his own for the Sixers.
Allan Houston was the only bright spot for the Knicks with 21 points, but the Knicks shot 36% and only had four fast break points as a team.
The San Antonio Spurs ripped the Indiana Pacers 98-85 at home, spoiling Isaiah Thomas debut as coach of the Pacers. David Robinson led the Spurs with 22 points and Tim Duncan had a solid game with 16 points and 10 boards.
Reggie Miller Had 27 points to lead the Pacers.
It was the Orlando Magic beating the Washington Wizards 97-86 in Orlando, FL. Tracy McGrady had a career high 32 points and 12 points in his Magic debut.
And Lastly, It was the Los Angeles Lakers over the Portland Trailblazers 96-86 in Portland. Shaquille O’Neal had a dominating game scoring 36 points and 11 boards and the Lakers showed why they are NBA Champions.

Rasheed Wallace led the Blazers with 26 points in a losing effort. And that is all for Sports news and here is Keith Wotton with Music News Update.

Above is a story I wrote for Television Writing when I was a student at Manchester Community College (MCC) in Manchester back in 2000. This writing class was one of my throwback moments that I picked for throwback Thursday. I enjoyed writing & commentating on the air during that time MCC had just expanded building a new building. Those were great memories and great times at the very first Community College that I've attended. I hope that all of my readers enjoy!
